D. Catherine Walker, Ph.D., Psychology PLLC
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Diplomate, Academy of Cognitive Therapy
My therapy philosophy:
I am a clinical psychologist licensed in New York State with over a decade of experience providing compassionate therapy to diverse clients. I received my doctoral degree at the University at Albany, where I was trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), an evidence-based treatment that works! I completed postdoctoral training at an intensive outpatient program for eating disorders. My areas of expertise include treating eating, weight, and body image issues, PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, women's issues, gender and sexuality-affirming care, and helping people through difficult life transitions. I believe that a good relationship with my clients is a necessary precondition to good therapy. I balance compassion and acceptance with a firm, challenging stance. We don't grow from sitting in our comfort zones! My clients are diverse by age, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, race and ethnicity, and ability status. I aim to provide affirming care to folks in the LGBTQIA+ community, kink/poly/CNM community, vegan, and to folks from diverse identities. Although I am limited by my own life experiences and privilege, I aim to constantly learn more about my clients, their intersecting identities, and what that means for them.
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and goofball of a toddler, getting outdoors, baking, and finding interesting ways to cook my CSA share veggies (okay, I usually just grill them...it's just so good I can't resist!).
I am taking new clients. I am not currently accepting insurance. However, clients can typically be reimbursed for out-of-network care via their health insurance and sessions are FSA/HSA eligible.
